terms of service

The house rules.

These terms are an agreement between you and Cellar Door Software LLC ("we," "us"), a Utah limited liability company, for your use of Chefkist: the website at chefkist.com, the Chefkist mobile apps, the browser extension, and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them. Effective September 6, 2026.

1. Who can use Chefkist

You must be at least 13 years old (or 16 where your local law requires) to have an account. An adult may add household members, including children, to their family and manage those entries on their behalf. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in email secure and for everything done through your account.

2. Your content

Recipes, photos, videos, notes, pantry data, diary entries, comments and messages you add to Chefkist are yours. You keep every right you have in them. So the Service can work, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, display and transmit your content, including to the people you share it with and, for content you make public, to the public. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already shared with others and for content we must keep by law. We may use your content to operate and improve the Service; we do not use your private content to train AI models.

Everything you create is private by default. You decide what to share with your family, your followers, or the public.

3. Clipped and imported content

Chefkist lets you save recipes from web pages, videos and social posts for your own use. You are responsible for making sure you have the right to save and, if you choose, share what you clip. Making someone else's copyrighted recipe text, photos or video public on Chefkist without permission is not allowed. Recipes we import from public social-media creators are attributed to those creators, who may claim or remove them.

If you believe content on Chefkist infringes your copyright, email legal@cellardoorsoftware.com with the content's link, a description of the work, your contact details, and a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is unauthorized. We respond to valid notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and may terminate repeat infringers.

4. Community rules

Chefkist is for cooks helping cooks. Do not:

  • harass, threaten or demean other people, or post hateful or sexually explicit content;
  • post content that is illegal, deceptive, or that you do not have the right to post;
  • impersonate others, spam, scrape the Service, or try to access accounts or data that are not yours;
  • interfere with the Service, probe its security, or use it to build a competing dataset;
  • use automated tools to create accounts or content in bulk.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.

5. Food, nutrition and AI

Nutrition figures, price estimates, pantry expiry guesses, and recipes extracted or generated with AI are estimates, produced automatically from imperfect sources. They can be wrong. Chefkist is not medical, dietary or allergy advice. Always check ingredients and labels yourself, especially for allergies, medical diets, and food safety. You are responsible for what you cook and eat.

6. Subscriptions and payments

Parts of the Service are free. AI-assisted features include a limited free allowance, after which a subscription is required. We offer individual and family plans, billed monthly or yearly. Prices are shown before you subscribe.

  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
  • Free trial. Where a trial is offered, a payment method is collected up front and the first charge happens when the trial ends unless you cancel before then. One trial per account.
  • Cancelling. You can cancel any time from Settings. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Except where the law requires otherwise, payments are not refunded for partial periods.
  • Price changes. We will tell you at least 30 days before a price change takes effect for your plan; if you do not cancel, the new price applies from your next renewal.
  • App stores. If you subscribe through the Apple App Store or Google Play, billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their terms.
  • Family plans are owned by the person who pays. Members share the plan's benefits while they are in the family; the owner can remove members at any time.

Payments on the web are processed by Stripe. Taxes are added where required.

7. Ending the relationship

You can delete your account at any time by emailing us from your account address. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, that are used for fraud or abuse, or if we are required to by law. We may also discontinue the Service or parts of it; if we discontinue a paid feature we will refund any prepaid, unused portion.

8. Our rights

Chefkist, its software, design, name and logo belong to Cellar Door Software LLC. Apart from your own content, you may not copy, modify, resell or reverse-engineer the Service. We license, and do not sell, the apps to you for personal, non-commercial use on devices you own or control.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, and we do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Cellar Door Software LLC and its members, officers and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or fifty US dollars. Some places do not allow these limits, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.

11. Indemnity

You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims and costs, including reasonable legal fees, arising from content you post, your breach of these terms, or your violation of someone else's rights.

12. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. If we have a dispute, email us first and we will try to resolve it informally within 60 days. Any claim that cannot be resolved that way will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Davis County or Salt Lake County, Utah, and you consent to their jurisdiction, except that either of us may bring an eligible claim in small-claims court. Nothing here limits consumer rights that cannot be waived under the law of your home country.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For material changes we will give notice in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the new terms. If you do not agree, delete your account before the change takes effect.

14. Everything else

These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. You may not transfer your account or this agreement; we may assign it to a successor of the Service. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.
